Q: What free services do Wellness Warriors receive?

All Wellness Warriors receive many free services. In fact, the entire program is free! Enrollment includes a free biometric health screening and online Health Risk Assessment (HRA). These two services combined give a great overall look at one's current health status. Other free services (based on risk level) include:

  • Fitness Assessment
  • Personal Training Sessions
  • Medication Therapy Management Consultations
  • Diabetes Management

Q: What is my risk level? How is my risk level determined?

Your risk level is determined by the results of your biometric health screening and online Health Risk Assessment (HRA). All Wellness Warriors are categorized into Low, Moderate or High risk. Click here to read a complete list of "risk cuts" that help determine your risk level. To learn what your risk level is, please call Ulliance at 888-699-6554.

Human Resources and the Wellness Warriors Program Administration DOES NOT RECEIVE your health information nor your risk level. You are protected by HIPAA, the laws governing personal health information. (Return to top)

Q: Do I get to use the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center for free?

For any Wellness Warriors-specific programming such as Wellness Warrior Events, personal training, a fitness assessment, and a nutrition consultation, you will be able to enter the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center at no charge. Wellness Warriors are not required to have a membership.

If you want to work out on a regular basis, however, you will need to purchase an employee membership to the More Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. Free access is provided to confirmed Wellness Warriors participants for Wellness Warrior programs or activities only. Many of our previous Wellness Warriors utilized their cash incentives to pay for their memberships. You may find this is also a good way to offset all or part of the costs of your Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center membership.  Note: 9- and 12-month Graduate Student Assistant participants do have student access to the fitness center as part of their tuition and fees. (Return to top)

Q: Do I have to buy a Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center membership to participate?

No, you do not have to buy a Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center membership to participate in our program. You can use the Mort Harris Recreation & Fitness Center for free only for Wellness Warriors events or the free services Wellness Warriors receive (see question above). Many past Wellness Warriors utilized their cash incentives to offset all or part of the cost of their membership to Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. This may be a favorable option for you, too! (Return to top)

Q: What is a Fitness Assessment?

This service is rendered at the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. A fitness assessment is an individualized health/fitness appraisal fo your current health & fitness status through a variety of physical fitness tests. The purpose of the fitness assessment is to help the MHRFC personal training staff prepare an individualized workout during your personal training sessions. Each assessment includes a review of your current health history and measurements of:

  • resting blood pressure
  • height/weight
  • body composition (body fat %)
  • cardio respiratory endurance (aerobic fitness)
  • upper body strength
  • abdominal strength
  • trunk flexibility

This service is rendered at the Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center. An experienced certified personal trainer is a key part to the formula of success for a workout. A MHRFC certified personal trainer will design a client-specific program for you and educate you on proper exercise form to increase the effectiveness of your workout. • Reduce or eliminate any unnecessary or ineffective medication use
  • Eliminate and manage all drug interactions, including over-the-counter medications and supplements
  • Reduce, if possible, any medication or health-related costs

Q: Who are the vendors that WSU is working with?

We have four vendors. For our enrollment Health Risk Assessments and unlimited telephonic Wellness Coaching, we have contracted with Ulliance of Troy, Michigan. They will be conducting our enrollment HRAs, providing seminars, individualized telephonic Wellness Guides and other helpful resources for participants. The second vendor for our on-campus program is Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center.  They will provide critical programming and free services based on your risk level. We also work with University Pharmacy for enrollment biometric health screenings, seminars, Medication Therapy Management, and other vital services for Wellness Warriors. For your nutritional needs we have contracted with Debra Cavender owner of Strategic Wellness, LLC. We know our partners' commitment to excellence and to your wellness and are excited to have them on our team.  (Return to top)

Q: What do I get for participating? What are the incentives?

On top of all of the free services you'll receive, each time you hit a program milestone, you will receive a cash incentive in your paycheck. Visit the Earn Incentives page for more information.  The Wellness Bucks Program also has a separate schedule of incentives called "Wellness Bucks," including free personal training sessions, free massages, and more! (Read more here about Wellness Bucks.) There will be plenty of incentives to keep up the momentum. (Return to top)

Q: What will I see on my paycheck?

The Wellness Incentives will be applied to your paycheck after we have determined if you have reached Incentive Eligibility. The timeline varies for each incentive.  There is no set date for any of the incentives to be paid out.  A broadcast email will alert you when you will be receiving an incentive.  Incentives will not be combined on a single paycheck. You will see a negative number associated with the Wellness Incentive in your deductions section on your paystub. This negative number means the incentive is being applied to your paycheck because it's in the deductions section. Everything in your deductions section is a positive number and is being taken out of your pay; therefore, we apply a negative amount to be added to your pay. Please note: incentives are considered taxable income, so each person’s exact incentive amount will be different based on their personal tax withholdings. You must be on the payroll as an active WSU full time benefits-eligible employee at the time of the incentive payout to receive the incentive. (Return to top)

Q: What if I was non-incentive eligible during the first half of the year? Can I be incentive eligible for the second half? Am I out of the program?

If you were non-incentive eligible during the first six months, you will not earn the incentive for that time period. However, you can still earn the incentive for being active July-December! You are never "out" of the program! If you don't meet the incentive-eligibility goals the first half of the year, you can aim to stay incentive-eligible the second half. It's that easy!
